TOUR AROUND FRESHWATER EAST WITH INTERACTIVE MAP
A tour around south Pembrokeshire within a 10 mile radius of Freshwater East will reveal many attractions. Starting in the east is Tenby, a walled town, and tourist "capital" of Pembrokeshire, which has 2 sandy beaches, the larger south beach stretching to Giltar Point, with views of nearby Caldey Island. In the main season there are regular boat trips from Tenby over to the island where the resident monks make perfume and other gifts.
Continuing westwards beyond Lydstep and Skrinkle beaches is Manorbier, which also boasts of a beach and a sea-side castle. The next place you come to is the sandy cove called Swanlake Bay before you reach Freshwater East.
3 miles west is the Stackpole Estate, which includes Bosherston lily ponds and a network of paths running by cliff, lake, wood and on to the beaches of Barafundle and Broadhaven. A little further on is St Govan's Chapel, halfway down the cliff, and a walk past towering stacks and deep clefts will bring you to the natural arch known as The Green Bridge.
Heading inland and just 4 miles from Freshwater East you will
find Pembroke, with its great castle, (the foundation of "little England"
and later the Tudor dynasty), town walls, museum, restaurants and galleries.
To add to the list of castles is Carew Castle with a tidal mill
nearby, both overlooking a branch of the Milford Haven Estuary, its upper reaches
often referred to as the "Secret Waterway".
